Aaron Chalmers Bellator debut barely lasts two minutes
Reality TV star Aaron Chalmers has surprised and won in his Bellator debut.
When Bellator announced in March that former Geordie Shore reality TV star Aaron Chalmers would be fighting amongst its ranks, scepticism surely went through the roof.
While he has made a great run for himself getting three first-round victories on BAMMA in just seven months, there were doubts if he would be able to handle the higher skill levels found in Bellator.
But in front of a packed Wembley Arena that included his TV show cast-mates, the 31-year old British personality put his opponent to sleep with an amazing standing guillotine choke at the opening minutes of the first round.
The fight wasn’t a walk in the park, as Chalmers had to defend some early takedown attempts from Ash Griffiths (now 4-7), and even take a solid knee to the face which he admitted was a wake-up call.
Yet, he still recovered in an astounding fashion and sealed the deal on his Bellator debut, extending his professional record to a perfect 4-0.
It’s fair to say that as history shows, it’s not always that TV stars fare well when daring to step into the octagon. But as it turns out, he seems to be rising above the lack of confidence the MMA community has initially had with him.
Taking the microphone in the interview immediately following his newest first round stoppage, Chalmers made his intentions very clear:
“I’ve been working a lot on my ground game, I took a knee, it worked me up, then bang, sit down son.”
“If you don’t like it then f*** you, simple as that I’ve got the best team with me in England.”
“That’s why I just put him away in the first round, simple as that.”
Only time will show how far Chalmers will go, but no one can deny ‘The Joker’ has definitely hit the ground running.
