Aaron Chalmers Suffers First Humiliating Loss In Front Of Home Crowd

Former reality TV star Aaron “The Joker”  Chalmers returned to the Bellator cage tonight taking on American Corey Browning in his hometown in the co-main event of Bellator Newcastle.

Chalmers is known in his native UK due to his appearances on reality TV, featuring as a contestant on Ex on the Beach, but is most well known for his time between 2014 and 2018 as a castmember of Geordie Shore, a localised adaptation of American show Jersey Shore set in Newcastle, England.

After leaving reality TV behind, Chalmers embarked on a mixed martial arts career, despite his only experience in combat sports being some muay thai as a youth. Since then he amassed a 4-0 record leading into this fight, showing a diversified skillset with two submissions and two knockouts on his record.

Although it was clear that Chalmers was highly inexperienced, he had shown in his early bouts an abundance of power and strong finishing instincts. In his bout with Alex Thomspon at BAMMA 31, Chalmers landed a left hook right straight combination that saw his opponent knocked out cold.

Tonight’s bout represented the biggest step up in terms of competition he had faced in Bellator veteran Corey Browning.

Browning had shocked the MMA world when he knocked out Kevin Ferguson Jr in the second round of his Bellator debut. Ferguson, better known as the son of the late UFC and Bellator heavyweight Kimbo Slice, had gone into the bout with Browning a heavy favourite but was overwhelmed and finished by ground and pound.

Prior to the fight, Chalmers told media members that he and Browning had agreed to keep the action on the feet and engage in a striking contest. However, he expressed doubts that his American opponent would honour the agreement, telling reporters that he believed Browning would likely attempt to bring the fight to the mat when he experienced Chalmers’ power.
