CM Punk Gets Hit With a Stone Cold Stunner While Training MMA
CM Punk is one of the more famous names in the UFC, but not for his MMA ability.
The 40-year-old made himself a household name in the WWE where he rose to be the sixth-longest reigning champion between 2011 and 2013.
Whilst other WWE stars such as Brock Lesnar have successfully crossed over into the UFC, Punk’s foray into the world of MMA has been less successful, losing his first two fights quite convincingly.
After becoming disgruntled and quitting the UFC, CM Punk’s first fight was against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in Ohio.
Whilst anticipation was high, fans were left disappointed with CM’s performance, doing down by rear-naked choke to the 24-year-old Gall in the first round.
His second fight went the distance in his home-state in June this year, however, the cards fell the way of his opponent Mike Jackson in a one-sided and somewhat mediocre display.
Punk is unlikely at this stage to receive a third fight within the UFC.
But in training a few years ago, he came up against Ben Askren, the two-time welterweight champion from Bellator and ONE.
Askren is an amazing spar-partner owing to his incredibly varied style that takes elements from a wide range of wrestling styles. Askren sees gaps where others don’t, meaning he is able to turn fights in the blink of an eye.
Couple this with pro-wrestler, CM’s habit for leaving himself open and you have some pretty easy chances for Askren to show him up.
In pro wrestling, obviously, CM would have to assist his fellow actors to execute their moves on him.
In the clip below we see Askren pull off the world famous Stone Cold Stunner: the move popularised by Steve Austin.
The crowd used to go wild for Austin’s famous finisher, but when Askren flips the tables on Punk the onlooking fighters and himself break out in laughter at the irony.
