Conor McGregor’s lawyer might have just leaked a major announcement
The fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov is the most highly anticipated matchup on all MMA fans minds. The Irishman ran rampant through the featherweight and lightweight division following his UFC debut in 2013 en-route to becoming the first UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously. A super fight with Floyd Mayweather would lure the Notorious one away from the cage though, and McGregor was stripped of his lightweight title earlier this year.
Meanwhile, outside of the gaze of the mainstream, Khabib Nurmagomedov was earning a reputation among hardcore fans as one of the brightest prospects in the lightweight division, as he used his high-level wrestling skills to dominate every opponent he faced in the Octagon. The Russian’s rise to the elite of the division was plagued by a series of injuries, but when he defeated Al Iaquinta on short notice for the vacant UFC Lightweight Championship, the collision course between Khabib and Conor was inevitable.
It has taken months but it finally seems like the fight is close to being announced. Speculation has been brewing that McGregor will return to the cage to fight for the belt he was never defeated for on October 6th, but that was mere rumours.
It seems like McGregor’s lawyer Graham Kenny may have inadvertently announced that the biggest fight of the year will be taking place in October. In a since-deleted Instagram story, Kenny posted a screenshot of a plane ticket from Dublin to Las Vegas, accompanied with the caption “it’s on……”.
If this is true, the fight between McGregor and Nurmagomedov will take place at UFC 229 in Las Vegas.
You’d think as a lawyer Kenny would have the smarts not to spoil the big news, but this could still be hearsay until it is officially confirmed by the UFC.
On that note, the UFC is holding a press conference to promote future cards on Friday the 3rd of August at 1:30 pm Pacific Time, so look out for the news to be potentially announced then.
