Gennady Golovkin Shows Off His Terrifying Punching Power For Canelo Rematch
The boxing world waits with bated breath in anticipation of Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez rematch set to be contested on September 15th. The first matchup between the pair resulted in a draw. The decision was controversial with Judge Adelaide Byrd scored the fight 118-110 for Alvarez when other judges Dave Moretti had it scored 115-113 for Golovkin and Don Trella scored it a draw 114-114. This resulted in fight-fixing allegations which led to her being sidelined by the Nevada commission. The rematch had to happen and nearly a year to the day since the first bout, the two most exciting boxers in the world will go at it again.
The rematch had been set for 5th May, however, was postponed due to Canelo testing positive for Clenbuterol, a banned substance. The Mexican maintains that the result was due to eating dodgy Mexican meat which he had no idea contained the substance. “I don’t want to get anyone else involved. This was my mistake for not reading up on the risks.” Canelo said in an ESPN interview.
GGG is staying out of it, saying that the fight is based more on principle than politics or money. He is set to clear his name as the undisputed world champion with unbiased results. The T-Mobile Arean showdown will also see Golovkin defend his WBA (Super), WBC, and IBO middleweight titles.
Obviously, preparation is key to everything in boxing. After another annihilating training regime, GGG decided to hold an open media workout to showcase his power and ability. The footage will strike fear into the Canelo camp with some of Golovkin’s power punches set to have devastating consequences if they land. Two hands are required to keep the pads in position as GGG goes to town with combos and singles. At one point the pad goes flying, along with his coach’s hand…nearly.
