NFL Star Greg Hardy Just Flatlined His Opponent on Dana White’s Contender

Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series returned last night, featuring fighters hoping to earn a contract in the UFC.

With a sweet-chin-music knockout also on the card, fans were treated to violence of the highest order. But none more so than that seen in the main event.

Greg Hardy vs. Austen Lane was the card’s featured bout and did not disappoint.

The fight saw two heavyweight former NFL stars square off, unsurprisingly resulting in a huge finish.

Hardy had the more prolific gridiron career of the two, playing in the 2013 Pro Bowl. However, he is possibly more well known for being convicted of assaulting a female and communicating threats in 2014. The domestic violence charge was expunged from Hardy’s record in 2014.

Austen Lane also had a career in NFL but was less prolific then is opponent.

Despite this, he did have the edge in MMA experience, entering the fight with a combined amateur/professional career of 10 wins and 0 losses.

Hardy meanwhile, was stepping into the cage for his first pro fight after winning three amateur bouts but didn’t look like a debutant.

Despite being at a disadvantage in terms of experience, Hardy demonstrated the power that has made him a huge prospect at heavyweight.

Both men wasted little time in getting acquainted with the other’s fists. Hardy came out of the gate extremely hyper-aggressively, pressuring Lane against the cage with looping hooks.

Lane attempted to subdue the pressure by firing back with a pair of straight punches but was caught with a clean counter that left him out on his feet.

A second left dropped Lane, giving Hardy victory in his professional debut with a KO in just 57 seconds.

His time in the UFC might not prove so easy.

‘The Black Beast’ Derrick Lewis has already made his feelings on Hardy and his murky past clear.

He’s a wife beater. I’d like to get in there with him. I like knocking these wife beaters out. Yeah, I’ll fight Greg Hardy. It’d be like vice versa of him beating all the women; I’ll be beating him like he’s a woman.
