Dustin Poirier Leaves Max Holloway Looking Like a ‘Walking Dead’ Character
UFC 236βs co-main event showdown between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier was posed to be one for the history books. The Interim Lightweight title fight gave Holloway a chance to become a dual title-holder, having already won and defended his featherweight championship twice since 2017. The two met way back in 2012 in the featherweight division when a more-experienced Poirier was able to submit the Hawaiian with a Submission of the Night-winning armbar.

The rise in weight division to lightweight brought with it a new opportunity for Holloway, who had achieved all he could in the featherweight division. Having won his last 13 fights, a tremendous challenge awaited in Atlanta despite betting agencies having his at short odds to take out the fight. For Poirier, the matchup marked the first chance the Southern American had to seize the crown in any division. He also had enjoyed a run of form leading up to the fight with his last 5 being won or non-contested.
