Conor McGregor Vs Team Khabib Almost Erupts On Stage At Weigh-Ins For UFC 229

Saturday night has been a long time coming.

It has been nearly two years since we last saw Conor McGregor in the octagon, and whom better to come up against than the man whom he believes is unworthy of wearing the champion’s belt: Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Despite only being announced a couple of months ago, the rhetoric and relentless trash talk has drawn out the period and provided plenty of interest between the pair.

The fighters’ weigh-in is of particular interest, with both fighters needing to get under 155lbs in order to qualify for the Lightweight division, both fighters are said to be straddling the cusp of the limit.

Conor McGregor is looking huge in the lead up with many pundits commenting that it looks like he has stacked on considerable size for the championship fight.

On the other hand, Nurmagomedov has a history of not making weight, something that his Irish opponent has not missed out on pointing out.

“I want him making weight, I want him to show up on Saturday night because he was missed weight before and been rushed to hospital.”

McGregor also pointed out that even if Nurmagomedov doesn’t make weight, he would still like the fight to go ahead in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

His comments would have delighted the thousands of fans descending on ‘Sin City’ and the millions set to tune in from around the world.

“You know with me there’s always a fight going on somewhere. If he doesn’t make weight we’ll figure it out when we get there. I’m fighting, know that!”

They both had a two-hour window between 9am and 11am to make weight.

Khabib was the first on the scale and came in at 155 lbs for his UFC lightweight title defense and Khabib showed up at the weigh-in 30 MINUTES before he was supposed to step on the scale — looking focused and ready to go.

McGregor had no reported weight cut issues but was third-to-last to weigh-in anyway, and he weighed 154.5 lbs before letting out a primal scream. A member of McGregor’s camp reportedly told Helwani he “slept in” on the day of the weigh-in.

Renowned MMA journalist Ariel Helwani also said he was a little disappointed the pair didn’t square off one last time before their fight and said the weight cut process was “absolutely insane”.

“The amount of weight these men and women cut … if this truly got out to the mainstream world, you’d be flabbergasted at what they do before stepping into the cage,” Helwani said at the weigh-in. “It’s shocking what they go through.”
