Mike Tyson Punched Former UFC Champion & Nearly Broke His Nose
‘Iron’ Mike Tyson is one of the most revered names in the history of boxing.
Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Tyson went out a tear in the heavyweight division, becoming the youngest ever world champion aged just 20.
Later in his career, Tyson’s prowess in the ring would gradually decline, punctuated by a shock defeat to Buster Douglas, and a stint in prison, but the folklore around the man never receded.
Something that never left Tyson however, was his trademark power.
Despite clearly not being the fighter he once was, Tyson’s final five wins of his boxing career all failed to go the distance.
Since his retirement in 2005, Tyson has gone on to feature in movie roles and starred in his own one-man show.
Recently Tyson starred in Kickboxer: Retaliation, alongside former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum.
During the shooting of the movie, the two were involved in a fight scene together where Tyson accidentally nearly KO’d Werdum. In an interview with TMZ, the former ADCC grappling world champion Werdum recounted his experiences with Tyson on set.
Mike Tyson punched my nose, too, an accident, but he punched me and almost he broke my nose.
Because I’m an actor, he’s no actor too, but he’s good, he’s a funny guy, he’s a very nice guy, but he punch very hard.
It almost knocked down me, but it’s good.
I feel good because it’s Mike Tyson, no other guy. Maybe other guy, I don’t feel good if they punch my face, but Mike Tyson’s OK.
When he was asked if he considered returning fire to the former heavyweight king Tyson, Werdum replied jokingly.
No, no, no, Maybe I’d take him down
The movie also featured several well-known names from the world of MMA, including Roy Nelson, Wanderlei Silva, Renato Sobral, Renzo Gracie, Frankie Edgar, and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.
