Mike Tyson Snaps As He Sees Don King For The First Time in Years
They say you should never poke a bear, especially one as volatile as “Iron Mike” Tyson.
We found out in somewhat funny circumstances this week, that it is still pretty easy to get Tyson to snap and unleash the venomous fury that frightened the press and left reporters speechless in the 80s and 90s.
The clip below which comes from the Boxing Hall of Fame induction last weekend in Canastota, New York. Tyson is already seated at the head table as a frail Don King enters the frame.
As he passes Tyson he gives him a warm tap on the shoulder.
Well, Tyson did not see the gesture as a friendly, warranted greeting, turning to his former manager and showering him with his glass of water. King keeps walking as Tyson admonishes him for touching him.
The crowd reaction is a mix of stunned silence, with a smattering of applause for Tyson.
The beef between Tyson and former manager and promoter, Don King is no secret. In 1998, the fighter famously sued King for $100m that he said he had been cheated out of.
The day after, Tyson was interviewed and asked about the incident.
The interviewer was obviously savvy to the animosity Tyson had towards King. However, Tyson showed remorse for his actions saying that he acted immaturely and and he needs to move on from his bitterness.
It was clear though that Tyson still harbours a great deal of resentment towards his former boss, and bygones will not be bygones just yet.
“That was me being immature, I shouldn’t have done that, but, you know, he touched me, he tapped me on my shoulder … it’s just, I don’t know.
“He talked in there like he was my friend and that was just bullcrap.”
“I gotta get rid of my bitterness, let all of that go”
