Man rides across Lake Como on a motorbike
We’ve seen some pretty amazing feats achieved on water.
Those of you old enough would remember with great pride when Fonzi jumped over a caged shark on Happy Days. We have seen youngsters in their teens circumnavigate the globe in a yacht. We have seen Peter Jackson dive deeper than most other humans on the face of the earth in his weird mini deep submersible vessel thing. But this video is deadset crazy and needs to be seen to be believed!
Evel Knievel did some pretty outrageous things on a motorbike, but his stunts often backfired on him resulting in a reported 433 bone fractures over his long jumping career, he was a bit of a legend all the same! Enter Luca Colombo. The young Italian stunt rider went where not many (if any!) have gone before. He rode his Suzuki 450 across a lake! But not just any old lake.
The scene for the stunt was the beautiful northern Italian Lake Como. His modified Suzuki was fitted with skis that allowed the tread of his tyres to protrude through. The tread acted as mini paddles to propel him forward. He had to manage his speed to keep a constant 46.6 mph. Too slow and he would sink, too fast and the tread would displace, rather than grab water resulting in lost traction.
The 3.4-mile journey across lake Como set a world record as the longest travelled on water by a motorbike. The ride lasted a fraction over five minutes and the trip was accompanied by drones, jet skis and boats to ensure his safe passage. The drone footage showcases some of the most majestic and picturesque scenery and we forget that of the tiny vessels on the water, one of them is a bloody motorbike!
The rider balances physics with power and grace as he traverses the famous lake to a throng of fans waiting to welcome him to the other side. Watch the video below for yourself.
