One Cop Battles An Army Of Crackheads In The New York City Subway
Crack cocaine is a highly addictive substance. Once it has you in its grasp, compulsive use leads to the financial and social demise of many a user. Essentially, due to the extreme euphoria that the user feels in addition to its addictive nature, junkies will do just about anything to chase done their next hit. Unfortunately, because of its high price, that also means they will borrow beg and steal in order to fuel their habit.
In the clip below we see a bunch of crackheads who are taking refuge in a train station in the New York City subway. It is winter, so they all huddle together to stay warm. We assume that they are homeless and need to make ends meet on the mean streets, but that is impossible when essentials are being foregone and replaced by drugs.
A police officer has the unfortunate task of busting up the party and telling the group they’re not allowed to squat there. The request has been met with predictable disdain from members of the group who do not have the reasoning skills of regular people.
As the group advances on the officer who is inexplicably alone on his beat, he uses defensive techniques like kicking the crackheads in the chest to push them back. He holds his nightstick at the ready and fends them off when they are getting too close. The addicts may be full of bravado, but they are weak and fall easily.
The clip climaxes when one of the men lunges for the officer but he is able to easily redirect him, seeing him fall awkwardly off the platform and onto the train tracks. He hits his head on the rail and doesn’t look to be moving a great deal. This could be because he is knocked out, or because of the drugs.
