Georges St. Pierre Treating Khabib Nurmagomedov Like His Son

There is significant talk surrounding a potential matchup between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Georges St. Pierre. The veteran 36-year-old returned this time last year after 4 years away from the sport. But he certainly remained in the minds of fans around the world. After his UFC 223 sin, Nurmagomedov called out St-Pierre as his first title defense later in the year. St-Pierre declined, on medical grounds.

Despite this, the Canadian has tremendous respect for the Russian, saying in a 2017 interview:

“I think actually one of the best pound-for-pound in the world, maybe the best pound-for-pound in the world is Khabib Nurmagomedov. I always said it. For me, he’s probably the best pound-for-pound. Unfortunately, I believe people don’t give him enough credit. Maybe because he’s not American, he’s not someone who talks a lot of trash like Conor McGregor, he’s someone who’s very respectful, he doesn’t make a lot of noise by talking. But the same thing, as I said before about me, is that the resume speaks by itself. You know, the guy’s undefeated, he beat everybody.”

Calls for a lightweight matchup between the two have had water sprayed on them by MMA analyst, Robin Black:

“It’s a wonderful fight, but I don’t think the UFC would like it – they don’t want Georges fighting at 155, and right now they like to have a conflict, they like to have controversy, they like to have hate, they like to have drama. And Georges St-Pierre ain’t giving you much drama!”
