VIDEO: The ‘Shaolin Monk’ Destroys 7 Foot 2 Giant In Knockout Only Match
The hotly anticipated MMA battle between ‘Shaolin Monk’ Yi Long and man mountain Hong-man Choi occurred in China overnight. The MAS promotion fight had considerably modified rules compared to what MMA fans are used to. The single-round fight with a time-cap of 9 minutes was to be decided only by KO. The modified format had mixed reviews and forced a lot of debate on account of the two fighters marked differences.
Yi Long, a Wushu and Sanshou kickboxer, standing at 5’9” is dwarfed by Man Choi who is a staggering 7’2” and weighs 330 pounds. Man Choi, whose stamina has been a problem in the past was never the favourite to win the fight, despite his size and reach advantages. As expected, the Shalin Monk, who has put away big names like Buakaw, used a dart-in, dart-out tactic to wear down the giant.
The fight, which was fought in 6-oz gloves, specially designed for the fight did not go the distance as a well-timed spinning back kicks from Yi Long cannoned into Man-Choi’s abdomen. The giant did not react immediately with the pain taking a few seconds to take hold.
He clutched his genitalia and waved at the referee to pause. Yi Long was sent to the ropes and apologized to Choi for an alleged low blow. The huge crowd showed little concern for the giant as they erupted into peals of laughter.
A replay showed that unless Choi’s testicles had ascended into his hip-area, the strike was legitimate and had not hit him where it hurts most. But, that is what stopped the fight, with Choi retiring hurt and Yi long picking up the TKO.
