BJJ Blackbelt Takes On State Champion Wrestler In ‘Street Fight of the Year’

One of the beautiful things about MMA is that you can have two fighters trained in completely different disciplines squaring off against each other. It’s not too dissimilar from the original MMA video games like ‘Street Fighter’, where it was always great to see Blanca squaring off against Chun-Lee to see which style would get up. High School fights were always a bit of fun and were often a part of boys being boys. But the kids of today are growing up faster than ever and the two young men in the video below are pretty competent in their fighting crafts.

The inaccurately-named ‘Streetfight of the Year’ video below is neither a street fight, nor a contender for ‘Fight of the Year’. Clickbait aside, it is a showcase of some quality high school wrestling and grappling talent. The assembled locker room crowd sure does love it and get pretty excited when the wrestle gets a tad out of hand.

Far removed from the gratuitous violence that comes to us from adult street brawls, the relatively tame nature of this clip brings us back to what it was like to have a fight at school. To these kids, the fight was probably a huge deal and talked about for months. It was probably the culmination of a term’s worth of trash talk which the teachers turned a blind eye and ear too.

The fight is between a black kid and a white kid. Whilst the white kid looks to have the upper hand in the early stages, going in low and making the other kid work, it is the black kid that has the definitive move. By managing to get underneath the white kid, he executes an awesome body slam that has the crowd in a fever.

From there, kids swarm in the break the fight apart, but the two definitely want to go on with things.
